Acute exercise reverses aged-induced impairments in insulin signaling in rodent skeletal muscle

Aging rats were subjected to swimming for two 1.5-h long bouts, separated by a 45min rest period. Sixteen hours after the exercise, the rats were killed and proteins from the insulin signaling pathway were analyzed by immunoblotting.

A high cholesterol diet elevates hippocampal cytokine expression in an age and estrogen-dependent manner in female rats

While the effects of a proatherogenic diet have been widely studied in the context of systemic inflammation, much less is known about its effects on central or brain inflammation and its modulation with age.

Cardiac Oxidative Stress and Inflammation are Similar in SAMP8 and SAMR1 Mice and Unaltered by Curcumin and Ginkgo biloba Extract Intake

Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress increase with advancing age and appear to be involved in the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide.

The role of inflammatory and fibrogenic pathways in heart failure associated with aging

Heart failure is strongly associated with aging. Elderly patients with heart failure often have preserved systolic function exhibiting left ventricular hypertrophy accompanied by a decline in diastolic function.

Inflammation, aging, and cancer vaccines

This review addresses the effects of age and inflammation on cancer development and progression, and speculates as to whether the modulation of inflammation may influence the response to cancer immunization.

Antioxidants in Health, Disease and Aging

There is growing scientific agreement that antioxidants, particularly the polyphenolic forms, may help lower the incidence of disease, such as certain cancers, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, DNA damage, or even have anti-aging properties.

Fish oil decreases inflammation and reduces cardiac remodeling in rosiglitazone treated aging mice

Proposed mechanism of the effect of chronic supplementation of a pro-inflammatory corn oil diet with rosiglitazone (RSG) on cardiac remodeling. RSG exacerbated pathological LV hypertrophy and dysfunction in aging C57BL/6J mice.
