Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in forensic chemistry for identification of substances isolated from tissue

SummaryThe use of combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in forensic chemistry is demonstrated in 13 cases where various substances had to be isolated and identified, the substance was present in small amounts in some samples while in others the sample available was very small.

Gas Chromatography of 17-Ketosteroid Oximes. Formation of Nitriles by Beckmann Fission

Oxime derivatives (methoxime, benzyloxime, trimethylsilyloxime) of 17-ketosteroids will, under some gas chromatographic conditions, undergo Beckmann fission in the injector zone. The result of this effect is partial or total conversion of the steroid derivative to a nitrile.

Gas Chromatographic Determination of Trimethylsilyl Derivatives of Free Amino Acids from a Botanical Source

Gas chromatographic separation was accomplished with a 10% OV-11 glass column and temperature programming. The findings compare favorably with other chromatographic methods. Structures of the TMS-amino acids were confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry combination.

Benzyloxime Derivatives of Steroids. A New Metabolic Profile Procedure for Human Urinary Steroids Human Urinary Steroids

Benzyloxime (BO) and benzyloxime-trimethylsilyl (BO-TMSi) derivatives of steroids may be prepared in the same way as methoxime (MO) and MO-TMSi derivatives. They are eluted much later than the corresponding MO derivatives.

The Use of Mass Spectrometry in the Sequencing of Peptides of Biological Importance

new permethylation reaction is described. This reaction is applicable for sequencing biologically important oligopeptides by means of mass spectrometry. The technique is illustrated-with a tetrapeptide that cannot be sequenced as easily by other methods.

A Laboratory Procedure for the Acetylation and Permethylation of Oligopeptides on the Microgram Scale

The amino acid sequence of oligopeptides can be determined from the mass spectra of their volatile derivatives. A general procedure for the N-acetylation and N,O,S-permethylation of unknown peptides that do not contain arginine is described.

Analysis of the Mass-spectrometric Double-beam Method for the Determination of Isotope Abundance Variations

The only method used for exact determinations of slight variations in natural isotope abundances is the mass-spectronietric double-beam method with standard comparison. With measurements on gases having isotope ratios up to 100:1 ?-value deviations of <0?1? can be achieved.
