Descaling ability of low-alloy steel wires depending on composition and rolling process

Low-alloy steels made by industrial processes are covered with an iron oxide layer. Descaling is necessary before any shaping operations by wire drawing can be done to transform wires. In order to ease the descaling stage, this oxide layer must have low adhesion.

Comparison of the oxidation of high-sulfur Ni–25Cr–5Al alloys in as-cast and as-sputtered states

To understand the effect of sulfur on the oxidation of nanocrystalline (NC) alloys, a high-sulfur alloy having a chemical composition similar to a coarse-grained (CG) cast alloy of Ni?25Cr?5Al?1S (wt.%) was fabricated using magnetron sputtering.

Oxidation of a NiCrAlYSi overlayer with or without a diffusion barrier deposited by one-step arc ion plating

The coating systems of a NiCrAlYSi overlayer with or without a diffusion barrier (DB) were deposited by one-step arc ion plating (AIP). Isothermal and cyclic oxidations were performed at 1050?C for 100h and 100 cycles, respectively.

Characterisation of fresh surface oxidation films formed on pure molten magnesium in different atmospheres

This paper examines the early stages of surface oxidation of liquid magnesium under argon, air, and air mixed with protective fluorine-bearing gases. Surface film characteristics such as morphology, thickness and composition are determined.

Oxidation of β-SiAlONs prepared by a combination of combustion synthesis and spark plasma sintering

High temperature corrosion behaviour of a gradient NiCoCrAlYSi coating II: Oxidation and hot corrosion

The high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion behaviour of a NiCoCrAlYSi coating and a gradient coating were investigated. The gradient coating showed better performance of re-healing alumina scale due to its possession of more ? phase as Al reservoir.

Experimental studies and modeling of the oxidation of multiphase niobium-base alloys

hree-phase oxidation model has been developed for study the oxidation behavior of multiphase alloys. This model has been utilized to identify the oxidation behavior of three-phase Nb-base alloys and successfully predicted the critical value for the exclusive formation of CrNbO4.
