An Electron Spin Resonance Study for Real-time Detection of Ascorbyl Free Radicals After Addition of Dimethyl Sulfoxide in Murine Hippocampus or Plasma During Kainic Acid-Induced Seizures

Electron spin resonance (ESR)-silent ascorbate solutions generate a detectable, likely concentration-dependent signal of ascorbyl free radicals (AFR) immediately upon addition of a molar excess of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).

We administered a controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury or sham injury to transgenic mice expressing either human APOE3 or APOE4 on a murine APOE-deficient background. RNA was prepared from the ipsilateral hippocampi and cortices retrieved at 24 h and 1 month post-TBI.

Neonatal Handling Impairs Spatial Memory and Leads to Altered Nitric Oxide Production and DNA Breaks in A Sex Specific Manner

Litters of rats were non-handled or handled (10 min/day, days 1?10 after birth). In adulthood they were subjected to a Morris water maze or used for biochemical evaluations. Female handled rats showed impairment in spatial learning.

Alterations in dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) levels in the coral Montastraea franksi in response to copper exposure

Symbiotic corals routinely experience hyperoxic conditions within their tissues due to the photosynthesis of the endosymbiotic dinoflagellate microalgae (Symbiodinium spp.). Symbiodinium spp. produce high intracellular levels of the osmolyte dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP).

Differential Responses of Epiphytic and Planktonic Toxic Cyanobacteria to Allelopathic Substances of the Submerged Macrophyte Stratiotes aloides

The present study investigates the allelopathic effects of Stratiotes aloides on the growth and antioxidative biomarkers of epiphytic and planktonic toxic cyanobacteria in a batch experiment over a 15-day exposure to different concentrations of aqueous acetone extract of this macrophyte.
