Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in forensic chemistry for identification of substances isolated from tissue

SummaryThe use of combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in forensic chemistry is demonstrated in 13 cases where various substances had to be isolated and identified, the substance was present in small amounts in some samples while in others the sample available was very small.

The Determination of Cyclohexylamine in Aqueous Solutions of Sodium Cyclamate by Electron-Capture Gas Chromatography

ensitive primary amine assay, capable of detecting 10-11 g. and utilizing the determination of the amine N-2, 4-dinitrophenyl derivative by electron-capture gas chromatography is described. The method is exemplified by the determination of cyclohexylamine in sodium cyclamate.

Detection of Sulfur-Containing Compounds in the Gas Phase of Cigarette Smokes

The use of gas chromatography with flame photometric detection provides a convenient means of detecting sulfur-containing compounds in the gas phase of cigarette smoke. Application of the method casts doubt on currently held views about the composition of the sulfur-containing portion of smokes.

Gas Chromatography of 17-Ketosteroid Oximes. Formation of Nitriles by Beckmann Fission

Oxime derivatives (methoxime, benzyloxime, trimethylsilyloxime) of 17-ketosteroids will, under some gas chromatographic conditions, undergo Beckmann fission in the injector zone. The result of this effect is partial or total conversion of the steroid derivative to a nitrile.
