Physical Training with Submaximal Intensities in Women II. Effect on Cardiac Output

In 13 women (age 21-61) circulatory studies at submaximal and maximal exercise were made before and after 7 weeks' training. For a given submaximal work load cardiac output was 1.5 1/min less in the older subjects. The maximal oxygen uptake increased through training from 1.94 1/min by 10.

Physical Training with Submaximal Intensities in Women I. Reaction to Exercise and Orthostasis

33 women in different age groups participated for about 7 weeks in a physical training programme. Training was conducted intermittently 2-3 times a week on bicycle ergometers. The work load corresponded to 70% of the maximal aerobic power.

Effect on Women of Physical Training with Low Intensities

Untrained women took part in 30 min of physical training 3 times a week for 6 weeks. One group trained on bicycle ergometers and a second group by walking. The work load and walking speed corresponded to 50-60% of the individual maximal aerobic power.

Physical Training with Submaximal Intensities in Women III. Effect on Adaptation to Professional Work

32 women, 19-64 years old, were studied before and after a 7-week training period during their daily professional work as sales staff members. Most of the work time was spent standing, and none had to do physically hard work. Mean heart rate during work was the same after training as before.
